eFoil Battery Life and Range: How Long Can You Actually Ride?

It is the first question almost every new rider asks: how long can I stay on the water on a single charge? The honest answer is that it depends. The battery is the fuel tank of your eFoil, but how far that tank takes you comes down to your weight, your speed, the wing under your board, and even the wind and chop on the day you ride. Lift also builds two very different batteries, and which one is right for you is really a question about which board you want. Here is how eFoil battery life works, both per ride and over the years you will own the board.

What Actually Determines Your Ride Time

Published ride times are a starting point, not a promise. Lift quotes ride time as powered minutes on a full charge, and the real number you see on the water moves with a handful of factors:

  • Battery capacity. This is the big one. The energy stored in the pack, measured in kilowatt hours, sets the ceiling on how long the motor can run. A bigger pack simply holds more rides.
  • Rider weight. A heavier rider needs more power to get up on foil and to stay there, so the battery drains faster. A lighter rider on the same board will see longer sessions.
  • Speed and throttle use. Cruising at a steady, efficient pace sips power. Pinning the throttle and doing repeated starts burns through a charge much faster. Most of your range is won or lost in how you ride.
  • Wing choice. A larger, higher lift front wing gets you flying at lower speed and with less power, which stretches your ride. A smaller, faster wing asks for more throttle to stay up.
  • Water and wind. Flat, calm water is the easiest place to be efficient. Chop, current, and a stiff headwind all make the motor work harder and shorten the session.

Put simply, a light rider cruising a big wing on glassy water will far outlast a heavier rider ripping hard into the wind on the same battery. Treat the published ride time as the best case and ride your own numbers.

The Full Range Pack: Long Sessions on the LIFT5 and LIFT5 F

If your priority is staying out as long as possible, the LIFT5 and the LIFT5 F are the boards to look at, because they run the Gen5 Full Range battery. This is the big tank. It holds about 2.2 kWh of energy, which is good for up to roughly 90 minutes of ride time on a charge. When you are done, it recharges to 80 percent in about 80 minutes, so a lunch break or a fresh tank between sessions is realistic.

The Full Range pack does carry its capacity in weight: it comes in at about 30.5 lb. The 2026 Full Range battery is 23 percent lighter than the 2025 pack, so you get that long ride window with noticeably less to haul to the water than owners had a year ago. For riders who want the most time on foil per charge, and who do not mind a heavier board to get it, this is the pack that delivers.

Both the carbon LIFT5 and the fiberglass LIFT5 F use this same Full Range battery, so the long ride time comes standard on either build.

The LIFTX Trade: Less Weight, a Livelier Board, a Shorter Window

The LIFTX takes the opposite approach, and for a lot of riders it is the more fun one. Instead of the big Full Range pack, the LIFTX runs the lighter LIFTX battery, which holds roughly 0.9 to 1.0 kWh. That smaller tank means a shorter ride window, up to about 45 minutes on a charge, and it recharges to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

Here is the payoff for that shorter window. The LIFTX battery weighs only about 16.8 lb, which is roughly 20 lb lighter than the Full Range pack. Drop 20 lb out of the board and the whole experience changes. The board is far easier to carry to the water and quicker and more responsive under your feet. The LIFTX is built to feel like a surfboard first and a powered craft second, and the light battery is a big part of why.

So the choice between the two packs is really a choice between two kinds of riding. The Full Range battery on the LIFT5 and LIFT5 F is about maximum time on foil. The LIFTX battery is about a lighter, livelier board that you recharge more often. Neither is better. Battery Lifespan and How to Get the Most Years Out of It

Per ride life is only half the story. The other half is how many seasons the battery itself lasts, and that is largely in your hands. A large lithium ion pack like the one in your eFoil is happiest when it is treated gently, and the habits that keep it healthy are simple:

  • Store it cool and dry. Heat is the enemy of any lithium battery. A baking hot garage or a closed car in the Florida sun is one of the worst places to leave a pack. A climate controlled space is far kinder over the long run.
  • Store at a partial charge. For longer breaks between rides, a battery held around half charge ages more slowly than one stored full or run all the way down. Top it off when you are ready to ride again.
  • Let a hot pack cool before charging. Coming straight off a long session, give the battery time to return to room temperature before you plug it in.
  • Keep it clean and dry after saltwater. Rinse the battery compartment and the contacts after every saltwater ride, then dry everything before you seat the pack and store the board.

Carrying a Spare for an All Day Session

No matter which battery you ride, the simplest way to turn a single session into an all day session is to carry a spare. When the first pack runs low, you swap in a fresh one and keep flying while the empty pack charges back up. For dawn to dusk days, a road trip to a new spot, or a group where the board never gets a break, a second battery is the upgrade that pays for itself in water time.
